Summer Camps

Summer 2019 features camps for a wide range of interests – click on each one below for more information! Most camps are designed for ages 6+ and will be held from 10am – 3pm each day, except for two half-day camps the week of July 22nd. Questions? Email amanda@thenovelneighbor.com.

Description: Hitch up the wagons and let’s go! Discover the excitement of pioneer days as we discuss and learn about life on the American frontier through the experiences of Laura Ingalls Wilder. We’ll make crafts, like cornhusk dolls, clove apples, and button necklaces; we’ll churn butter and picnic on the prairie. We’ll play games like Kick the Can or Hide the Thimble. Come have fun while learning about an exciting part of American history! Ages 7-12

Instructor: This camp will be led by Jenny Ingram, an English teacher from Lafayette High School, whose passion for reading started with the Laura Ingalls Wilder books

Description: We are returning to Hogwarts! This camp will be perfect for muggles and wizards alike, including any wizards that have already worked on their skills at our other HP camps!  Ages 6-12

Instructor: This unique camp will be led by instructor Megan Bledsoe, an educator with experience teaching grades K-5 – and an AVID Harry Potter fan!!

Description: Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! First Years, this way! This camp is perfect for Harry Potter fans, whether you’re new to the series or know them all by heart! As first year students, all young wizards will gather supplies in Diagon Alley, try on the Sorting Hat to find their houses, participate in classes to earn points for their teams, and play Quidditch. Throughout the week we will make crafts and play games inspired by the Harry Potter books, and on Friday the House Cup will be awarded to the house with the most points. Ages 6+

Instructor: This camp will be led by Anne Link, librarian at Bristol Elementary and will feature different activities from our other Harry Potter camps!

Description:Using our local playground, Lockwood Park, as a creative resource, campers will work with a variety of natural materials in order to create colorful weavings, intricate rock mandalas, fairy houses, pinecone gnomes and elves, and many other naturally creative projects for those that love art and the outdoors. Ages 6+

Instructor: This camp will be led by Sarah Hassing, the studio art teacher and Early Childhood Coordinator for The College School. Sarah is a graduate of The Evergreen State College and a MAE student at Webster University.

Description: This half-day camp will focus on textile and fabric art through many different avenues. Participants will have the chance to hand sew, weave, and dye fabric during this five day exploration into fiber arts. By the end of the week, all participants will have hand-made crafts to bring home! Ages 6+

Description: **This is a half-day camp, from 1-4pm** Join us as we turn The Novel Neighbor into an enormous art studio! We will draw and sketch, paint and sculpt as we find the beauty in using fine arts materials during this week of creativity. Ages 6+
