Teacher Education and Assistance

Teachers and librarians receive a 20% discount on every item they purchase for use in their school. We accept your tax exempt forms and would be happy to discuss accepting purchase orders.

Want an easy way to learn about the season’s best books? Several times a year, The Novel Neighbor hosts in-store educator nights. These free events will include a presentation by staff on new and exciting books; time to shop; and individual assistance locating books on particular subjects as needed.

We’ll also have publisher promotional items to give away – posters, bookmarks, reading group guides, and advance reading copies of books. Best of all: on educator evenings, your discount is good on ANYTHING in the shop (except consignment items)!

Need a new book for a particular curriculum requirement? Want to update your summer reading list, but having a hard time finding the hours needed to read piles of new books? Tired of using the same Holocaust/Civil War/family trauma novel in your classroom? Just want to overhaul your classroom library? Melissa will help you find the perfect books for classroom use.

Author Visits

Do you have money in your budget for an author visit? We can help. Our publisher connections and industry knowledge can help you find the best author for your student population, and help you stay within your budget.

Prior to the author’s visit, we can order you sample copies of books to create pre-visit excitement, as well as write an order form for students to take home for book purchases. 20% of the price of all books sold will be given back to the school OR you can pass the 20% on to your students as a discount.

Physical author visits not in the budget this year? Did you know that many kids’ authors can visit your school virtually through Skype? All you need is a computer and a webcam with microphone, and your students can visit with an author over the internet. We are happy to help you arrange this as well, and offer the same book purchase arrangement as we do with a physical author visit.

Sometimes we are offered authors for free school visits. The only publisher requirement is that the author’s books are made available for purchase at the school. Novel Neighbor school customers are always first in line for these offers!

Interested in having an author, but unsure how it works? We are happy to help and advise, always.

Fundraising

In-store book fairs – Schools earn 20% of anything purchased during their in-store book fair. We offer an excellent hand-chosen selection not only of the recent bestsellers and critical favorites, but also of the hidden treasures that other shops have long forgotten. We also offer targeted personal recommendations AND can order anything in print and your school will still receive the credit. Special orders are generally received within 48 hours and often within 24. There are many ways to customize a book fair, including in-school book talks for students and/or parents, and we can discuss them all with you.

We would welcome the opportunity to show you the advantages of having your book fair in a locally owned bookstore.

Summer reading book orders – Why should the parents of your students go nuts in August? We send home an order form in the early spring; students return the form with a check or credit card number; books are delivered to the school for each student before the end of the school year. You get a percentage of the profits for almost zero effort, OR you can pass the discount on to your students.

What Educators Say

As an Elementary School Principal, I love to work with The Novel Neighbor. They are ahead of the curve on what is new on the horizon, yet also knowledgeable about classics and foundational books. I appreciate their offers of author visits, their educator discounts and their commitment to  schools. They are easy to work with and fun to laugh with!
